The answer to yesterdays Medical Challenge was Leishmaniasis. This illness is found in tropical and subtropical areas and it is a parasite spread by bites of the sand fly. The skin sores erupt weeks to months after infection and the infection can also damage the spleen and liver. Cure rates are high with the proper antibiotics.Lucky for us, we do not have this disease in the United States.
